Crash in Riverside Kills One Person; Disrupts Electrical Power
RIVERSIDE, CA (December 24, 2018) – A collision on Sunday afternoon in Riverside killed one person, severely injured another, and disrupted electrical power. The December 23 crash occurred where Chicago Avenue and Linden Street intersect.
The time was roughly 1:21 p.m.
Reports say that a Hyundai Accent—which was driven by a resident of Carson, 20 years old—had been heading north on Chicago Avenue, and traveling at a fast speed. The Hyundai’s driver, reports say, did not stop at a red light on Linden Street.
The Hyundai collided with a Honda Civic. The Hyundai then crashed into a palm tree. A person who had been traveling as a passenger in the Hyundai died at the accident scene. The name, age, and city of residence of the deceased victim has not yet been reported.
The person who had been driving the Hyundai suffered injuries that were described as major. According to Ryan Railsback, who is an officer with Riverside Police, the passenger—identified as female—was partly thrown from her seat. The driver’s condition was described as serious.
Reports say the other person who was involved in the crash—identified as a resident of Riverside, 23 years old—suffered injuries that were described as minor. Railsback said the driver had been traveling alone at the time of the crash.
The collision knocked down power lines, which disrupted power for roughly 500 customers, reports say. Investigators are trying to find out how the accident happened by examining the details and information.
