Suspect Leads Police on Chase from Chino Hills to Redlands
REDLANDS, CA (October 18, 2018) – A suspect who led police on a chase from Chino Hills to Redlands was arrested Monday. The October 15 incident began late Sunday night when a deputy pulled a driver over for expired tags and false registration close to where Torrey Pines Drive and Avenal Court intersect.
The time was a bit before midnight, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says. The driver fled from the deputy, and began driving on the 91 Freeway in a chase that lasted 45 minutes.
The suspect’s car left the freeway at Maple Street. The suspect then tried to get back on the freeway. The deputy who was in pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle tried a PIT maneuver (Pursuit Intervention Technique) on the onramp to stop the fleeing vehicle.
The suspect driver then struck the patrol vehicle, reports allege, which caused damage that was described as moderate.
The fleeing driver left the freeway, and the vehicle was found in a driveway in a residential area. Authorities arrested the suspect, identified as 59-year-old Randy Slajer, a resident of Redlands.
Slajer was allegedly on probation for driving under the influence. Authorities booked Slajer for evading arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and violating parole.
