Hit-and-run Driver Kills Man Riding Moped in Redlands
REDLANDS, CA (October 18, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a man who was riding on a moped on Tuesday morning. The October 16 accident occurred where Orange Street and Colton Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 6:30 a.m.
The moped had been traveling on Colton Avenue heading eastbound, Redlands Police say, when a vehicle hit it.
The vehicle did not stop, but drove quickly away, police say. The vehicle then got on the 10 Freeway heading west.
Responders treated the injured man at the accident scene, and then took him to Loma Linda University Medical Center. He died in the hospital.
Leonard Ortiz was the victim, a crossing guard who worked near Lugonia Elementary. He was 48 years old, and a resident of Redlands.
