Driver Suspected of DUI Hits Deputy Vehicle on Poway Road in Poway
POWAY, CA (September 23, 2019) – A driver suspected of DUI struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle, and the vehicle the deputy had pulled over for a traffic stop, in Poway early in the morning on Saturday. The September 21 incident occurred on Poway Road close to Iola Way.
The time was roughly 1:43 a.m., the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Reports say a deputy had pulled a vehicle over for a traffic stop, and while he was seated in his patrol vehicle, a vehicle hit his vehicle and the vehicle he had stopped.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the deputy suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person who had been in the vehicle that the deputy pulled over was not hurt, according to reports.
The driver who struck the two vehicles stopped at the accident site. Reports say the driver admitted that he had been drinking before the incident occurred.
Authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). The identity of the suspected driver has not been reported, including name, age, and city of residence.
The identities of the deputy, and the person who had been driving the vehicle the deputy pulled over, have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather information about the crash.
