Hit-and-run Driver Crashes into Restaurant in Pismo Beach

PISMO BEACH, CA (March 1, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver crashed into a restaurant in Pismo Beach, leaving it damaged. The February 28 accident occurred at Penny’s All American Café.

The time of the incident was roughly midnight.

Reports say that a driver smashed into the restaurant and fled the accident site. Officers stopped the driver some time later, who was traveling on 4th Street. According to officials, the driver was intoxicated. He was identified as Gerardo Ramirez, 28 years old. His city of residence has not been reported. Officers arrested Ramirez on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

According to reports, the restaurant was closed on Thursday, but the owner—identified as Penny Rodriguez—said she was planning to open Friday after cleaning all day on Thursday. She will probably close the restaurant, she said, for maybe as much as two weeks once she has the permits to repair the building. Customers of Penny’s All American Café had been stopping by on Thursday, Rodriguez said, to give their support.

Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the crash. The type of vehicle that Ramirez had been driving at the time of the incident has not been described. No other details have been reported on the incident.
