Peoria School Bus Crash

Peoria, AZ – Six people were hospitalized after a school bus struck a truck near an intersection Monday morning.

The accident happened near the northbound Loop 101 off-ramp and Olive Avenue. The bus driver told officials that the breaks to his bus were unresponsive as he exited the freeway. Unable to stop in time, the bus rammed the back of a stopped pickup truck which then struck a sedan in front of it. The bus was carrying 32 students en route to Sun Valley Elementary School.
Three children and all three drivers were taken to a local hospital after paramedics inspected the victims. Those taken to the hospital suffered minor non-life threatening injuries. Paramedics reported that the other children suffered minor bumps and scrapes, not severe enough to be taken to the hospital.
Students were transferred onto a second bus which took them to school. Officials are telling parents to visit their children at school not the scene of the accident.
Police continue to investigate the scene of the accident.
