The Oxnard Police Department is currently searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian Friday evening.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m.
When they arrived at the scene at Hemlock Street and Capstan Drive, officers found a 20-year-old victim who had been hit by a vehicle.
Authorities believe that the suspect vehicle might have been an Infiniti because of certain debris left at the scene.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling westbound on Hemlock when Aida Reyes attempted to cross at a marked crosswalk at Capstan Drive.
According to witnesses, the Infiniti driver struck the victim after failing to yield, and then fled the scene without stopping to check on the victim or provide aid.
Reyes was transported to the hospital in critical condition and reportedly succumbed to her injuries later Saturday morning.
Officers have been unable to locate the driver but they did locate the suspect vehicle, a 2003 Infiniti G35, in a nearby neighborhood.
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Senior Officer Maria Pena at (805) 385-7750.
