Juvenile Suspect Fleeing CHP Pursuit Crashes and Dies in Palmdale
PALMDALE, CA (November 13, 2018) – A juvenile driver who was fleeing from pursuit by the California Highway Patrol crashed and died Sunday night in Palmdale. The November 11 accident occurred where Division Street and Palmdale Boulevard intersect.
The time was 10:00 p.m.
According to Tony Polizzi, who is an officer with the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit began a short time before the crash.
Pursuit began when a vehicle—described as a 2005 Nissan Altima—was seen speeding and making a number of lane changes that were unsafe on the 14 Freeway, also known as the Antelope Valley Freeway. The vehicle had been reported stolen.
Reports say that the driver started to yield on the off-ramp for Palmdale Bouelevard. The driver then did not stop for the red light, but moved away at a fast speed, according to Officer J. Helble who is with the CHP.
According to Helble, the car did not stop at the Division Street intersection. It nearly crashed into another vehicle. The suspect’s car then went out of control and smashed into a palm tree located at a gas station.
Helble said the juvenile who had been driving the car—identified as a boy—was pronounced deceased at the accident scene. The boy’s name and age have not yet been reported.
Investigators are examining the details and information of the crash.
