Motorcyclist Fleeing Police Traffic Stop in Pacoima Crashes and Dies
PACOIMA, CA (September 19, 2019) – A motorcyclist who was fleeing from a traffic stop officers were trying to make for a moving violation crashed and died in Pacoima early in the morning on Thursday. The September 19 incident occurred on an exit of I-5.
The time was roughly 1:35 a.m.
Reports say authorities received numerous calls that roughly 10 motorcycle riders had gathered and were doing some tricks. The motorcyclists are reported to have been shooting video of the riding, which blocked the movement of traffic on I-5 northbound near Roscoe Boulevard.
According to Officer Sanchez, who is with the California Higway Patrol, when officers came to the scene, they saw two motorcycles. Officers tried to make a traffic stop, but one of the riders tried to get off the freeway. The motorcycle rider crashed into a wall at the exit for Terra Bella Street.
Responders tried to help the victim, but he died at the site of the incident. The victim was identified only as in his 20s. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
According to reports, all the other motorcyclists who had been reported in the area left the scene. None of the riders has been identified.
Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the incident.
