Crash in Pacoima near Metrolink Kills Man, Injures Woman
PACOIMA, CA (January 7, 2019) – A man died and a woman was injured in the morning on Sunday when two vehicles collided in Pacoima close to a Metrolink rail. The January 6 accident occurred on San Fernando Road close to Osborne Street.
The time was roughly 9:00 a.m.
Matthew Bielski, who is a sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department, said that witnesses saw one vehicle swerve to the wrong side of the street on San Fernando Road. The vehicle then collided with a second vehicle.
According to Bielski, the force of the crash made the second vehicle smash through a fence. Responders from the fire department arrived on scene, and had to extract a victim—identified as a man 43 years old—from the wrecked second vehicle. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the man died at the accident scene. His name and city of residence have not yet been reported.
Responders took the person who had been driving the first car—identified as a woman 73 years old—to a hospital. Her condition was described as critical. Her name and city of residence have not yet been reported.
According to Bielski, no other people were traveling in each of the respective vehicles. Fire Department crews worked to push the first vehicle off of the tracks. Reports say the vehicle had significant damage to the front end.
Investigators are looking into the data, information, and details to find out why the accident happened. The type of vehicles involved in the crash have not yet been reported.
