Motorcyclist Fleeing Police Collides with Vehicle in Pacific Beach; Suffers Serious Injury
PACIFIC BEACH, CA (March 2, 2020) – On Friday night, a motorcyclist who was fleeing police collided with a vehicle in Pacific Beach, and was seriously injured. The February 28 incident occurred where Fanuel Street and Grand Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 11:10 p.m.
Reports say the motorcyclist would not stop for officers in the area of the Jewell Street and Garnet Avenue intersection. Officers pursued the rider on Jewell Street and Grand Avenue, Robert Heims said. Heims is an officer with the San Diego Police.
According to reports, the motorcyclist rode between vehicles that were stopped at the Fanuel Street and Grand Avenue intersection, and entered the intersection when the light was red. The motorcycle struck a vehicle—described as a Toyota Prius—broadside, according to Heims.
Responders transported the rider to a hospital. The rider suffered injuries that were described as life threatening. The rider was identified only as 28 years old. The person’s name, gender, and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Toyota—identified only as 62 years old—was not injured in the incident, reports say. The name, gender, and city of residence of the driver has not been reported. Passengers who had been in the Toyota—who have not been identified—were also reported to be uninjured.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather information regarding the incident.
