Light Pole with Corroded Base Crashes onto Car in Pacific Beach
PACIFIC BEACH, CA (June 18, 2019) – A light pole fell onto a car in Pacific Beach on Saturday. The June 15 incident occurred in the vicinity of Reed Avenue and Ingraham Street.
Reports say a man in the neighborhood, identified as Kevin Payne, had been walking and heard a crash. According to Payne, a lifeguard was passing by in a vehicle, and stopped. The lifeguard closed off the area until respondents could arrive.
The light pole had fallen onto a car, and the toppled pole revealed the base was full of rust and corrosion. Reports say that according to people in the area, it would have been difficult to notice there was a problem. Payne is reported to have explained that it would be necessary to remove the cover from the base to see the problem.
