Two-vehicle Crash in Oxnard Kills Two, Injures One

OXNARD, CA (September 6, 2018) – Two people died and another person was critically injured in a collision in Oxnard late Monday night, the Oxnard Police said.

The accident occurred where Victoria Avenue and Wooley Road intersect. The time was roughly after 11:30 p.m.

Responders found that two vehicles—described as a Lexus GS 430 and a Pontiac Firebird—had collided. According to police, three people had been traveling in the Pontiac and going south on Victoria. It had been moving at a high rate of speed, police said, at the time it collided with the Lexus. The Lexus had also been heading south.

Reports say that after the crash, the Pontiac continued to move south until it went off the roadway and hit broadside against a palm tree.

The driver of the Pontiac—identified as Juan Cruz, a 19 year old resident of Oxnard—died at the accident scene.

A passenger who had been traveling in the Pontiac—identified as Karisa Serrato, a 20-year-old resident of Port Hueneme—was thrown from the vehicle on impact with the palm tree. She suffered injuries that were described as serious. Responders took her to Ventura County Medical Center. She died in the hospital.

A third person who had been traveling in the Pontiac—identified as a man 19 years old and a resident of Oxnard—was taken to Ventura County Medical Center. His condition was described as critical. He was reported stable on Tuesday morning.

The person who had been driving the Lexus—identified as a man 34 years old—was not injured in the crash. He stayed at the accident scene.
