Woman Killed in Head-on Collision in Oxnard

OXNARD, CA (April 23, 2019) – Martha Ramos was killed in a head-on collision in Oxnard in the morning on Saturday. The April 20 accident occurred on Carpinteria Avenue close to Bailard Avenue.

The time was roughly 6:30 a.m., according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

Reports say that a vehicle—described as a Nissan van, white in color—had been traveling west on Carpinteria Avenue. For reasons that are not known, the van went over the line in the center of the road and collided with a Toyota that had been traveling east.

Ramos had been traveling as a passenger in the van. Respondents arrived and pronounced her deceased at the accident site. She was 54 years old and a resident of Oxnard.

The person who had been driving the van—identified as a man 41 years old and a resident of Oxnard—was injured. Respondents transported him to a hospital.

The occupants of the Toyota—identified as four members of a family from Montecito, including two teenaged boys—were hurt in the crash. Their injuries were described as moderate. The driver has not been identified, nor have the other victims, by name.

Investigators from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team are examining the details and evidence.
