Woman Identified as Victim Killed in Oxnard Crash
OXNARD, CA (June 10, 2020) – Maria Perez Ortiz was identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office as the victim who was killed in a crash on Saturday morning near Oxnard. The June 6 incident occurred where Channel Islands Boulevard and Rice Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 8:00 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle–described as a Lexus RX300–had been northbound on Rice Avenue. The Lexus struck the back end of a vehicle–described as a Nissan Rogue–that had been stopped at the Channel Islands Boulevard intersection, waiting for the red light.
According to reports, the force of the crash shoved the Nissan into the divider in the center of the road. The Lexus came to a stop off of the roadway.
Perez Ortiz had been in the Nissan, traveling as a passenger. She died at the incident site. She was a resident of Oxnard, 41 years old.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the Nissan to VCMC. The person suffered injuries that were described as major. He was identified only as a resident of Oxnard, 14 years old. His name has not been reported.
Responders also transported the person who had been driving the Lexus to VCMC. The person suffered injuries that were described as major.
The driver was identified only as a woman who is a resident of Lake Forest, 33 years old. Her name has not been reported. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI–driving under the influence.
