Man is Struck and Injured by Vehicle While Running from Deputies in Oxnard
OXNARD, CA (April 2, 2019) – A man was struck and injured by a vehicle as he ran from deputies in Oxnard in the evening on Friday. The March 29 accident occurred on the 101 Freeway.
The time was roughly 9:00 p.m.
Reports say that deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department pulled a driver over on Riverpark Boulevard, close to Vineyard Avenue, for a routine traffic stop. The driver—identified as a man—ran from deputies. Deputies chased the man on foot, but lost his trail at some point on the 101 Freeway close to Vineyard.
According to reports, the California Highway Patrol received a call that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian on one of the freeway’s onramps at Vineyard Avenue. The victim who was struck was the man who had fled from deputies only minutes prior.
Respondents transported the injured man to the hospital. He suffered injuries that were described as serious, but not life-threatening. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, they do not know why the man ran away. He had no warrants that were outstanding. Reports say that the Sheriff’s Department is not pursuing any case.
