Ontario, CA – Fiery Crash on 60 Freeway Kills Veronica Hernandez; One Driver Arrested for DUI

ONTARIO, CA (July 14, 2018) – Veronica Hernandez was killed Saturday morning in Ontario in the early hours when a vehicle she was riding in crashed. The collision occurred on the 60 Freeway in the westbound lanes, a little bit west of Grove Avenue. The time was roughly 2:48 a.m.
Reports say that a 2007 Mazda, and a semi truck that was carrying metal pillars, collided. According to reports, the semi truck swerved across all the traffic lanes, and then it hit the center divider.
The impact caused the truck to catch on fire, and spill metal pillars in the lanes of westbound traffic. Reports say the Mazda swerved across the lanes of traffic and the dirt shoulder. It then struck a sound wall.
According to witnesses, cars were hitting the metal pillars that were strewn across the lanes.
A man who had been driving the semi truck said to people who witnessed the accident that his wife was still inside the truck that was burning. The truck’s driver, described in reports as 45 years old, suffered burn injuries to a leg and arm, and low blood pressure. Responders took him to the hospital.
The truck driver’s wife, who had been sitting in the passenger seat, died in the crash. Paramedics pronounced her deceased. The woman was identified later as Veronica Hernandez, a 46-year-old from Ontario.
Responders took Elvis Hernandez Tellez, a twenty-three year old from Ontario who had been driving the Mazda, to the hospital. His injuries were described as minor.
Reports say Tellez was arrested later on suspicion of felony DUI—driving under the influence. He was booked in Rancho Cucamonga at West Valley Detention Center.
Investigators are examining the details of the fatal accident.
