An off-duty police officer died Saturday after she was injured in an off-duty accident earlier in the week, said a Los Angeles Police Department representative.
Officer Kathleen Talbot crashed early Thursday morning. Details surrounding the crash are still unclear. Witnesses did tell radio station KHTS in Santa Clarita that Talbot’s vehicle crossed the centerline of Valencia Boulevard and crashed into a light pole.
Marty Seiebe, Lebec, emailed KHTS saying he witnessed the crashed and “never saw her apply the brakes, and can only assume that she lost consciousness when she first began to drift.”
Officer Talbot was a Rampart Station patrol officer.
“Hearts and prayers go out to the Talbot Family. You will be missed. #LAPD @LAPDRampart,” tweeted Police Chief Charlie Beck Saturday.
Talbot had been honored by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2011 for helping save the life of an arrested person who had been trying to commit suicide inside a holding cell at the Rampart station, City News Service reported.
More information will be available Monday, said police officials. Talbot’s death is just the latest in a series of Los Angeles Police officer deaths this year.
