Crash in Oceanside Kills Three Women; Teen Suspected of DUI

OCEANSIDE, CA (February 6, 2019) – Three women died and three other victims suffered injuries in a crash in Oceanside in the afternoon on Tuesday. The February 5 accident occurred where South Coast Highway and Oceanside Boulevard intersect.

The time was roughly 12:50 p.m., according to Greg Stagley, who is a sergeant with the Oceanside Police, and Tom Bussey, who is a spokesperson.

Reports say that a pickup truck ran through a red light and hit the victims’ vehicle—described as a Mazda sedan—broadside. Six people had been traveling in the sedan. Two victims who were seated in the back of the sedan were killed at the accident scene. They were identified as two women. Two other females, one of whom is 13 years old, were also reported to have been traveling in the back. They were thrown from the sedan at the crash’s impact.

Respondents arrived on scene and took four victims to the hospital. One victim was airlifted. One of the victims who was thrown from the sedan—a woman—was pronounced deceased in the hospital. The identities of the victims—including their names and cities of residence—have not been reported. No details have been reported on the current conditions of the three surviving victims.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Mason Fish, 19 years old. He was not hurt in the crash, and he remained at the accident scene and cooperated with the investigation. Fish was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Rick Davis said. Davis is a traffic sergeant with the Oceanside Police.

Investigators are continuing to examine the details and information regarding the accident.
