Car Collides with Delivery Truck on Mission Avenue in Oceanside; One Person Killed

OCEANSIDE, CA (June 18, 2020) – Late in the morning on Wednesday, a car collided with a delivery truck in Oceanside, killing one person. The June 17 incident occurred on Mission Avenue at the intersection with Airport Road.

The time was roughly 11:00 a.m., police said.

Reports say a vehicle–described as a sedan–had been going west on Mission Avenue and, according to witnesses, it was going at a fast speed. The car hit a delivery truck that was stationary, and the car erupted in flames. Reports say that according to witnesses, the hazard lights on the stopped delivery truck were illuminated.

Officers who were in the area arrived on scene and pulled two occupants out of the car that was on fire. According to Rick Davis, who is a sergeant, the two people were the driver and a passenger who was not conscious.

Responders transported the two people to the hospital. The person who had been the passenger in the car was pronounced deceased in the hospital. The identity of the person, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.

The person who had been the driver of the car suffered injuries that were described as not life threatening. The identity of the driver has not been reported.

The delivery driver had not been inside of the Pepsi truck when the collision occurred.

Investigators are collecting information and details regarding the crash to understand the circumstances and factors that contributed to it.
