Two People Die, Four are Injured in Northridge Crash
NORTHRIDGE, CA (January 28, 2019) – Two people were killed and four others were injured in a crash in the afternoon on Saturday in Northridge. The January 26 accident occurred on Parthenia Street in the 17500 block, close to Encino Avenue, Brian Humphrey said. Humphrey is a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The time was roughly 2:10 p.m.
Reports say that one vehicle—described as a hot rod-style kit car—and a second vehicle collided. The second vehicle has not been described.
According to reports, a person in the area—identified as Thomas Barker—said he was working in the yard at the time the hot rod passed him. According to Barker, the hot rod was traveling 65 to 70 miles per hour. He said he heard the engine revving. Then he heard what sounded like a thump.
Respondents arrived and pronounced one person who had been traveling in the hot rod as a passenger deceased at the accident scene. Respondents transported the person who had been driving the hot rod to a hospital in serious condition.
The driver died at the hospital, Lisset Fuentes said. Fuentes is a detective with the Valley Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The victims who had been traveling in the hot rod were identified only as men in their 50s. Their names and cities of residence have not been reported.
According to Humphrey, four people had been traveling in the second vehicle involved in the collision. Firefighters had to work to extricate the victims from the wreck. The person who had been driving, and a person who had been sitting in front as a passenger were taken to the hospital in conditions that were described as critical.
Respondents took two people who had been traveling in the back of the vehicle to the hospital in conditions that were described as serious. The identities of the people in the second vehicle have not yet been reported.
Investigators from the Valley Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department are examining the details of the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, he or she is asked to call 818-644-8000.
