Carjacking Suspects Lead Police in Chase in North Hollywood Ending in Crash and Arrest

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA (October 2, 2018) – Two people suspected of carjacking led police on a chase that went through the streets of North Hollywood and ended in a crash and arrests on Monday.

According to Mike Lopez, who is an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, the chase began at Saticoy Street and Lankershim Boulevard around 7:20 p.m. Officers pursued the suspects, and at least one of the suspects, reports say, might have been wanted for murder.

The vehicle fleeing from police raced through stop signs and red lights, and at times almost crashed into other vehicles. At times, the vehicle traveled in the lane of opposite-moving traffic.

Near the final moments of the chase, the suspect drove onto a curb and took off on foot. A short while later, he took an SUV, carjacking it out of a possible parking lot close to Whitsett Avenue and Sherman Way, which reports say was captured on live television.

The driver then traveled in the stolen SUV for some hundreds of yards and then crashed into a police vehicle as he attempted to get out of the lot. Lopez said that is when officers stopped him.

Officers took the person who had been driving, and a passenger, in custody. No identities have yet been reported.
