Woman Who Helps Bicyclist She Hit is Also Struck by Vehicle in Newport Beach; Both Victims Die
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (March 20, 2020) – On Saturday night in Newport Beach, a woman hit and injured a bicyclist and while she was helping him she was also struck by a vehicle. Both victims died. The March 15 incident occurred on San Joaquin Hills Road, close to Newport Ridge Drive.
The time was roughly 11:20 p.m., according to Bob Bennett. Bennett is a sergeant with Newport Beach Police.
Reports say the woman had been driving a vehicle—described as an SUV—and she hit a bicyclist. While she was helping the injured rider, she was also struck by a vehicle—which was also described as an SUV.
The person riding the bicycle died at the incident site. He was identified only as a male is his late teens. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders arrived on scene and transported the woman to Mission Hospital. She was pronounced deceased in the hospital, according to the Orange County Coroner’s office.
Authorities identified her as Aubrye Foote, a resident of Newport Beach, 45 years old.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Foote stayed at the incident site and cooperated with investigators. The identity of the driver has not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand the circumstances of the crash.
