Vehicle Smashes into Sports Bar on Sweetwater Road in National City

NATIONAL CITY, CA (August 16, 2019) – Early in the morning on Friday, a vehicle smashed into a sports bar in National City. The August 16 incident occurred on Sweetwater Road, at the N City Sports Lounge.

The time was roughly a little after 5:30 a.m., according to police.

Responders from the police and fire department arrived on scene, and discovered that a vehicle—described only as a sedan—had smashed into the bar and ended up inside.

Reports say that no one was at the premises when the incident occurred.

The person who had been driving the vehicle was identified only as a woman. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.

According to authorities, the driver said she made a mistake in thinking the accelerator was the brake pedal. The car, as a result, smashed into the building.

The driver was reported uninjured in the incident.

The owner of the building and the owner of the business have not been identified in reports. Inspectors arrived to look for damage to the structure. The extent of the damage has not been reported.

Investigators are continuing to work on gathering information regarding the crash.
