Fiery Three-Vehicle Collision on I-5 in National City Injures Nine People
NATIONAL CITY, CA (July 2, 2019) – On Monday night, a collision involving three vehicles, which resulted in fire erupting, injured nine people in National City. The July 1 incident occurred on I-5 on the northbound side, close to the exit for Civic Center Drive.
The time was roughly 7:00 p.m.
Reports say three vehicles collided, but none of the vehicles have been described, and it is not known from reports where each vehicle had been traveling when the incident occurred. It is not known if a rear-end, sideswipe, or other type of collision occurred. The sequence in which in the vehicles collided has also not been reported.
The crash resulted in fire erupting, but it is not known from reports which vehicle caught on fire, and if the other vehicles were impacted and burned as well.
Responders arrived and transported five people, one of whom is a child, to burn centers, reports say. Responders took four other victims to hospitals in the area.
None of the victims have been identified, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. It is not known from reports who the driver of each vehicle was, and in which vehicle each victim had been traveling.
No details have been reported on the types of the injuries the victims suffered, though it has been reported that five of the victims suffered burn injuries.
Investigators are working to understand what led to the crash. No other details have been reported at this time.
