Collision Kills Elderly Man on I-15 in Murrieta, Injures Two Other People
MURRIETA, CA (December 20, 2018) – A collision on I-15 in Murrieta on Wednesday afternoon killed an elderly man and injured two other people. The December 19 accident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, to the south of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, Mike Lassig said. Lassig is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The time was roughly 2:00 p.m.
According to reports, the elderly man—identified as an 80-year-old resident of Temecula—was traveling in the freeway’s number 3 lane, and going roughly 65 miles per hour. He was driving a Lincoln Town Car, year 1999. According to Lassig, another vehicle—described as a Dodge Ram van, year 2003—slowed all of a sudden as traffic in front stopped.
According to Lassig, the man who had been driving the Lincoln used his brakes, but his car went out of control. The car spun out, he said. The Lincoln’s driver’s side collided with the back end of the van. The impact from the crash sent the Lincoln into the median in the center of the freeway. The impact sent the van onto the freeway’s shoulder.
Respondents from the Murrieta Fire Department arrived and pronounced the man who had been driving the Lincoln deceased at the accident scene. The man’s name and city of residence have not yet been reported.
The person driving the van—identified as a man 61 years old—and his passenger—identified as a woman 58 years old—suffered injuries that were described as minor. Respondents transported them to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. Their names have not yet been reported.
