Wrong-way Driver Dies in Head-on Crash on 210 Freeway in Monrovia; Other Driver Seriously Injured
MONROVIA, CA (February 17, 2020) – A wrong-way driver died in a head-on crash early in the morning on Sunday in Monrovia; the other driver suffered serious injuries. The February 16 incident occurred on the 210 Freeway near Huntington Drive, and to the east of it.
The time was roughly 4:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Cruze—was traveling westbound in the freeway’s lanes that head east. The Chevrolet struck another vehicle—described as a Toyota Tacoma pickup—head on.
Responders arrived and pronounced the driver of the Chevrolet deceased at the incident site. The person was identified only as a woman; her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the Toyota to a hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as major, which include a pelvis that was broken, and broken legs. His current condition is not known.
He was identified as 19 years old, and a resident of Hemet, Officer J. Contreras said. Contreras is with the Baldwin Park-area office of the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators are working to understand why the collision happened; they are collecting details and information.
