L.A. Metro Train Hits Two People in Monrovia; Woman and Toddler Killed
MONROVIA, CA (April 16, 2020) – On Wednesday morning, an L.A. Metro train hit two people in Monrovia; a woman and a toddler were killed. The April 15 incident occurred where the California Avenue crossing is located, which is a gated track crossing, near Duarte Road.
The time was roughly 8:45 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and Monrovia Police said.
Responders arrived and pronounced the woman and the toddler deceased at the incident site. According to Ramon Montenegro, who is a deputy with the Sheriff’s Traffic Service Bureau, the child is believed to be less than 2 years of age.
The identity of the woman, including her name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported. The child’s gender has also not been reported.
According to authorities, the two victims were likely walking; investigators did not find a bicycle, stroller, or some other conveyance at the incident site.
The equipment at the crossing, such as the lights and barricade arms, seemed to function as they should, according to officials with LA. Metro.
No one on the train was hurt in the incident.
