Two Women Identified as Victims Killed in Ventura and Santa Barbara County Crashes
VENTURA and SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (April 23, 2019) – Martha Ramos Quintana and Edith Rubaloff were identified as the victims who were killed in two separate fatal crashes during the weekend in Ventura County and Santa Barbara County.
Quintana died when the vehicle she had been traveling in—described as a van—collided head on with another vehicle in the morning on Saturday. The crash occurred in Carpinteria on Carpenteria Avenue, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department. Quintana was 54 years old and a resident of Oxnard. It is not known from reports where Quintana had been sitting in the van at the time of the crash.
Details have not been reported on how the collision occurred. Reports say that the person who had been driving the van—identified as a resident of Oxnard—was hurt in the collision. The driver’s identity, including name, age, and gender, has not been reported.
The occupants of the other vehicle—identified as four people—were also hurt in the collision. The driver has not been identified, nor have the three other people in that vehicle. The vehicle has not been described.
In Ojai on Sunday night, roughly a bit before 6:00 p.m., Edith Rubaloff was hit by a vehicle as she crossed the road on foot. Reports say Rubaloff had been walking within a crosswalk located at the intersection of Maricopa Highway and Ojai Avenue. The Vons shopping center is near the accident site.
Respondents arrived and transported Rubaloff to VCMC. She later died. Rubaloff was 83 years old and a resident of Ojai. The person who had been driving the vehicle remained at the accident site and cooperated with the investigation. She was identified as 89 years old and a resident of Ojai. Her name has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their examination of the details and information relating to the two incidents.
