Encinitas Man Struck and Killed on Piraeus Street

ENCINITAS, CA (May 12, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Sunday in Encinitas, a man was struck and killed on Piraeus Street. The May 8 crash occurred close to Normandy Road.

The time was roughly 4:00 p.m., William Clem said. Clem is a sergeant with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Reports say the victim exited his vehicle after stopping in the bicycle lane. He walked across the lanes of southbound and northbound traffic to pick a flower on the shoulder of the roadway.

As he was walking back to his vehicle from the east shoulder, a vehicle struck him.

Responders transported the man to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital.

His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.

The person who was driving the vehicle that struck the man was not hurt in the crash, reports say. The driver’s identity has not been reported.

Investigators are working to collect details about the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can contact the North Coastal Sheriff’s Traffic Division.
