Woman Identified as Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in Los Angeles’ Echo Park Area
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 25, 2020) – Morena Del Carmen Alvarado-Lopez was identified by authorities as the pedestrian who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Los Angeles’ Echo Park area on Monday. A second pedestrian was injured in the February 24 incident, which occurred on Sunset Boulevard close to White Knoll Drive.
The time was roughly a little before 1:00 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Reports say Alvarado-Lopez and a man had been walking on Sunset Boulevard, not within a crosswalk that is marked, when a car hit them. Video that was recorded by a surveillance camera captured the vehicle driving away with the two victims tumbling behind.
Alvarado-Lopez and the male pedestrian were struck and dragged by the vehicle roughly 50 feet until they came loose. According to Juan Campos, who is a detective, the vehicle stopped briefly before leaving the scene.
Responders from Los Angeles Fire arrived and took the two victims to a hospital. Authorities pronounced Alvarado-Lopez deceased at 2:55 a.m., Los Angeles Police said. She was 58 years old.
The male pedestrian suffered severe injuries. He is expected to survive. He was identified only as 71 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are searching for the vehicle and the driver involved in the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can contact the Central Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The number is 213-833-3746.
