Crash in South Los Angeles Involving Car and Motor Scooter Kills 17-year-old Boy and Another Young Person
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (September 6, 2018) – A crash involving a car and a motor scooter in South Los Angeles on Saturday morning killed a 17-year-old boy and injured another young man.
According to authorities, the accident occurred in the neighborhood of Broadway-Manchester around 12:43 p.m.
The site of the crash was 92nd Street, in the 200 block, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A car—described as a black Lincoln—was traveling on Broadway heading south when it hit a motor scooter that three people were riding on.
Reports say that the driver didn’t see the scooter. The driver stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Myron McFrazier, who is the father of the 17 year old who died, said his son’s name was Jaylen. His other son had been on the scooter as a passenger, in addition to a friend. The father said he saw the three boys go past him before they were struck by the car.
Authorities said the driver will not likely be charged. The motorbike was not street legal, reports say.
McFrazier said none of the boys was wearing a helmet.
Investigators are continuing to look into the details.
