Elderly Bicyclist Dies After Collision with Vehicle on Los Coyotes Diagonal in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (September 9, 2019) – An elderly man who was riding a bicycle in Long Beach was hit by a vehicle last week, and later died in the hospital. The September 5 accident occurred on Los Coyotes Diagonal close to Stearns Street.
The time was a little before midday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Reports say the man had been riding the bicycle heading east, and crossing the northbound side of Los Coyotes Diagonal in the number one lane. A vehicle—described as a Honda Civic—that had been heading north on the road hit the bicyclist.
Responders arrived and transported the bicyclist to the hospital. His condition was described as critical. The man died Saturday in the hospital. He was identified only as 82 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the vehicle that struck the man stayed at the incident site and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was identified only as a man 19 years old and a resident of Los Angeles. His name has not been reported.
