Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, Killing Passenger

LONG BEACH, CA (August 19, 2019) – A driver—who is alleged to have been driving under the influence (DUI) early in the morning on Sunday—crashed in Long Beach, killing his passenger. The August 18 incident occurred on Pacific Coast Highway close to Grand Avenue.

The time was roughly 2:40 a.m., according to Long Beach Police.

Reports say a vehicle—described as a Lincoln town car—had been going at a fast speed. The driver lost control, and the Lincoln entered the lane of opposing traffic. It collided with another vehicle, described as a Cadillac.

Responders from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and had to work to extricate the passenger who was in the Lincoln. Responders transported her to a hospital in the area. While in the hospital, she died from the injuries she suffered, according to police.

The victim was identified as a woman 21 years old and a resident of Bellflower. Her name has not been reported.

Responders also worked to extricate the person who had been driving the Cadillac. The person was reported to have suffered injuries that were desribed as minor.

Responders transported the victim to a hospital. The driver of the Cadillac was identified only as a resident of Garden Grove, 49 years old. The name and gender of the person has not been reported.

The person who had been driving the Lincoln suffered injuries that were described as minor. He was identified as Osvaldo Ramirez-Vazquez.

According to reports, Ramirez-Vazquez was arrested and booked on charges that include driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter.

Investigators are continuing their work in gathering evidence regarding the crash. If anyone has information regarding the incident, the person should call Detective S.
