Suspected Hit-and-run Driver Arrested After Fatal Collision Near Lompoc
LOMPOC, CA (June 17, 2020) – A driver suspected of a fatal hit-and-run collision near Lompoc was arrested on Tuesday. The deadly June 16 crash occurred on Santa Lucia Canyon Road.
The time was roughly a little before 12:30 p.m., Kelly Valdez said. Valdez is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say two vehicles–described as a Lexus sedan and a Jeep SUV–collided head on not far from the Vandenberg Air Force Base and the Lompoc federal prison complex. The Jeep had been heading south on Santa Lucia Canyon Road and went into the lane of opposing traffic. The Jeep collided head on with the Lexus.
Responders arrived and pronounced the person who had been driving the Lexus deceased at the incident site. The driver was identified as a resident of Santa Maria, 36 years old. His name has not been reported.
The passenger in the Lexus suffered injuries that were described as major. She was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment. She was identified as 38 years old. Her name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Jeep–which was reported as a stolen vehicle–left the incident site on foot. Authorities later found the suspect driver. The identity of the person has not been reported, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
The identity of the owner of the suspected stolen vehicle has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work of gathering details and information regarding the incident.
