Woman Struck and Killed on Sidewalk in Loma Linda by Suspected DUI Driver
LOMA LINDA, CA (November 4, 2019) – Early in the morning on Saturday, Judith Covarrubias was struck and killed on a sidewalk in Loma Linda by a driver suspected of DUI. The November 2 incident occurred in the area of Newport Avenue and Barton Road.
The time was roughly 6:05 a.m.
Reports say Covarrubias was running on the sidewalk located beside Barton Road when the vehicle struck her. Responders arrived and pronounced Covarrubias deceased at the incident site, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. She was 65 years old and a resident of Grand Terrace.
The driver suspected in the incident was identified as Isaiah Tamasoaalii, 19 years old and a resident of Redlands. Authorities arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
