Travel Van and Car Collide in Lancaster, Injuring 14 People
LANCASTER, CA (April 8, 2019) – Fourteen people were injured in the afternoon on Saturday when a Travel Van and a car collided in Lancaster. The April 6 accident occurred where West Avenue F and North 60th Street intersect.
Reports say that people in the travel van had chartered the vehicle in Culver City to take them to see the poppy fields in Lancaster. According to Gilbert Borruel, who is a detective with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the van had been heading west on Avenue F. It collided with a vehicle—described as a Mini Cooper—that had been traveling northbound on 60th Street.
According to Borruel, the van overturned, rolling over one time and perhaps a second time. It then struck a light pole before stopping.
Respondents arrived on scene and worked to free two people from the wreck. Fourteen people were injured, with two people being transported by airlift. The condition of the two victims who were transported by air was described as critical. Their identities have not been reported.
According to Art Marrujo, who is with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, respondents transported 10 other victims to the hospital. Two people involved in the collision declined to be taken for treatment.
It is not clear from reports which vehicle the injured people had been traveling in. Reports do not specify which person had been an occupant of the travel van or the car. Respondents transported victims to Northridge Hospital, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and Palmdale Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the van was identified only as a female. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported. The identity of the car’s driver has not been reported, nor the identities of anyone involved in the incident.
Investigators are examining the details and evidence to understand the circumstances surrounding the crash. No other information is available at this time.
