Engine Problems Reported by Pilot Before Plane Crashes in La Verne; One Person Dies
LA VERNE, CA (October 1, 2018) – A pilot called the control tower at Brackett Field Airport in La Verne moments before the plane crashed, saying he had an engine problem. The single-engine plane—described as a Cessna 177RG—fell into a nursery located west of the runway for the airport on Sunday.
The time of the September 30 crash was roughly 5:50 p.m.
Two people had been in the plane at the time of the accident, according to authorities. Chris Dransfeldt said a man died at the accident scene, and a woman was in serious condition. Dransfeldt is a lieutenant with the La Verne Police.
The identities of the victims have not yet been reported.
Reports say that prior to the crash, the pilot had been practicing approaches. Built in 1977, the plane is registered to a man who lives in Los Angeles.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting an investigation to determine what caused the plane to crash.
