Pedestrian Struck and Injured at Grossmont Center Drive Intersection in La Mesa

LA MESA, CA (January 9, 2020) – A pedestrian was struck and injured in La Mesa early in the evening on Tuesday. The January 7 incident occurred where Grossmont Center Drive and Center Drive intersect.

The time was roughly 6:15 p.m., according to Brian Stoney. Stoney is a lieutenant with La Mesa Police.

Reports say a pedestrian—identified only as a man—had been walking within a crosswalk that is marked on Grossmont Center Drive. According to reports, Stoney said the pedestrian was walking on a “do not walk” signal, and did not have the right of way.

A vehicle—described as Nissan SUV—which had been traveling on Center Drive went through a light that was red as it turned to the right to Grossmont Center Drive. The vehicle hit the pedestrian.

Responders transported the victim to a hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as serious, including a broken leg and hip. His current condition is not known. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.

Authorities arrested the person who had been driving the vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury. The driver was identified as Brandon Michael West, 41 years old, and a resident of Poway.

Investigators are continuing their work on gathering information about the incident.
