Motorcyclist Dies in La Jolla Crash on Gilman Drive
LA JOLLA, CA (March 6, 2019) – A crash early Tuesday morning killed a motorcyclist in La Jolla. The March 5 accident occurred on Gilman Drive in the 8700 block.
The time was roughly a bit before 8:00 a.m.
Reports say that the rider—identified as a man 32 years old—had been traveling on a 1999 Triumph motorcycle and heading north. According to authorities, the man was riding in a bicycle lane in order to pass vehicles that were moving slower. As the rider was traveling beside the sidewalk, a vehicle—described as a Toyota Highlander—made a turn in front of the rider to head into a driveway.
Respondents arrived on scene and transported the injured rider to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The man was pronounced deceased, Michael Stirk said. Stirk is a police sergeant. The victim’s name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
The identity of the driver of the vehicle has not been reported, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence. Investigators are examining the details to understand the circumstances that led to the crash. No other details are available at this time.
