Posted on June 16, 2015 | Written By: iadminlaw

Jaywalking is a common practice on Winan Avenue and 52nd Street. There have been many accidents on this site. Cars go by at 30 mph.

Prayer time is a busy time for pedestrian crossing. This section of City Heights is one of the most dangerous in town.

Sixty-seven accidents have occurred, 28 near the 4900 and 5000 blocks of University, including one fatal accident.

This area is mostly low-income. The area is called  “Little Mogdiseu” after the capital of Somalia. There is a large Somalian population there which arose after the fall of the Somalian government in 1991.

Many shops are located there.

People walk to mosques 5 times a day to pray.

On Euclid Avenue the speed limit is 35 mph. In February of 2009 an elderly Somalian man was killed in an accident.

The city has approved the median divider on University.

Five million dollars has been allocated for the project and other public projects.

There are other needs in the city such as sidewalks and streetlights.

The goal is to prevent jaywalking.
