Multiple Vehicles Collide on Live Oak Avenue in Irwindale; Driver Suspected of DUI
IRWINDALE, CA (January 21, 2020) – Multiple vehicles collided Sunday night in Irwindale, with one of the drivers suspected of driving under the influence. The January 19 incident occurred on Live Oak Avenue, where the 605 Freeway southbound onramp is located.
The time was roughly 8:40 p.m., Irwindale Police said.
Reports say three vehicles collided, and one of the vehicle rolled over. None of the vehicles have been described, and the sequence in which the collision occurred has also not been described.
Responders took two people—one of whom was described as an infant—to hospitals in the area. The injuries they suffered were described as minor. The identities of the victims have not been reported.
According to reports, officers found that one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol. The person was identified as Eric Vargas, 28 years old and a resident of Baldwin Park.
According to people who witnessed the incident, he had been going over 100 miles per hour prior to the collision, reports say. Officers arrested Vargas on suspicion of felony DUI.
The two other drivers have not been identified in reports, including name, age, gender, and city of residence. It is not known if anyone other than the infant victim had been traveling as a passenger. It is not known from reports if any other injuries occurred.
Investigators are working to collect information to understand the crash.
