IKEA has Stopped Selling all Minced Meat Products

Posted on February 28, 2013 | Written By: iadminlaw

Two days after taking their Swedish meatballs off the menu over worries about horse meat contamination, IKEA has announced that they are ceasing the sale of all minced meat products from its main supplier. They said today that the Familjen Dafgard’s IKEA-branded sausages were withdrawn from stores in France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Britain. Stuffed cabbages and veal were pulled from stores in Sweden as well.

Basashi (raw horsemeat) from Towada.

Tests have shown that one batch in the Czech Republic included horse. 1-10 percent of horse meat was found during tests by the Swedish company itself. This confirms the Czech Republic’s horse meat findings. The source of the meat is still being investigated. Usually, the meat is bought in Sweden or Europe in general, but it may have come from a third party before that. IKEA maintains that there is minimal evidence of cross-contamination, but they want to avoid any issues arising from this matter so they are taking action. They have stopped selling meatballs in Europe, Hong Kong and Thailand, DR and Malaysia. IKEA stores in the U.S., Russia, Canada, Japan and Australia are still selling the meat because they have different suppliers.

The furniture seller is popular for its restaurants and frozen or dry food products, especially their Swedish meatballs.

This news comes after the scandal that occurred in Ireland and later Britain involving frozen beef products that actually had horse meat in them.
