Woman Identified as Victim Killed in Road Rage Incident in Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, CA (January 23, 2020) – Sophia Ardalan was identified by authorities as the victim who was killed in a road rage incident that happened just before midnight on Tuesday in Hollywood. The January 21 incident occurred on Martel Avenue in the 1300 block.
The time was roughly 11:50 p.m., Los Angeles Police said.
Reports say two people had been traveling in a Mercedes-Benz when it collided with a motorcycle’s rear tire on Martel Avenue. The driver of the Mercedes—described as a woman—kept driving and entered a driveway on Martel. Reports say the person riding the motorcycle confronted the people who had been in the Mercedes.
According to reports, the driver and the passenger got out of the Mercedes and argued with the motorcycle rider.
Reports say the passenger got back into the Mercedes, in the passenger seat in front. The sedan began to travel forward and the door on the driver’s side was still open.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the car’s driver tried to get back into the driver’s seat of the sedan as it was moving. The Mercedes struck a curb and a tree, reports say, and the driver, who had been knocked down, was beneath the car.
Responders arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the incident site. She was later identified as Sophia Ardalan, 27 years old.
Reports say the car’s passenger ran from the incident site. Authorities found the woman, who was identified as Samantha Cunha, 27 years old. She was described as a friend of the victim.
Cunha was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run.
The person who had been riding the motorcycle has not been identified in reports, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
