Two Brothers Killed in Hit-and-run Crash in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, CA (May 6, 2019) – Benny and Jesse Felix Zuniga, brothers who were 25 years old and 19 years old, were killed in a hit-and-run crash in Highland Park Sunday morning. The May 5 incident occurred on Pollard Street at San Pascual Avenue.

The time was roughly 1:00 a.m.

Reports say the two brothers had been heading westbound in a Ford Fusion on Pollard Street. A vehicle—described as a pickup truck—which had been traveling northbound on San Pascual, crashed into the brothers’ vehicle. According to the Los Angeles Police, the pickup shoved the brothers’ car into three or four cars that had been parked on the street.

Jose De Leon, who is a detective, said a witness recounted the pickup had been going roughly 70 to 90 miles per hour. A surveillance camera captured the crash, and video showed the person who had been the driver of the pickup getting out after the incident.

Witnesses gave a description of the two people who had been in the pickup as Hispanic men who are in their twenties. De Leon said it was not clear if the truck is registered to either of the men who fled the accident site.

Family members identified the victims as the Zuniga brothers.

Investigators are looking through details and evidence to find the people who had been in the pickup truck and fled the scene. No other details are available at this time.
