Alleged DUI Driver Smashes into Car on Tippecanoe Avenue in Highland; Woman Dies
HIGHLAND, CA (March 5, 2020) – A woman was killed on Monday in Highland when a driver, who is supected of DUI, went through a light that was red and smashed into the vehicle the victim was traveling in. The March 2 incident occurred where Tippecanoe Avenue and 3rd Street intersect.
The time was roughly 6:40 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a GMC Sierra—had been traveling north on Tippecanoe and went through a light that was red. The truck smashed into a vehicle—described as a Kia Soul—which had been westbound on 3rd Street.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the Kia to the hospital. She was pronounced deceased in the hospital.
She was identified only as 27 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
The truck’s driver stayed at the incident site and cooperated with investigators. She was identified as Rachel Leah Hibbert, 36 years old and a resident of Phelan.
Authorities arrested Hibbert on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). She also faces murder charges, according to reports.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather information and evidence regarding the crash.
