Driver Cited for Possible Violation After Pedestrian Killed on Stanford Street
HEMET, CA (March 19, 2025) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning on Stanford Street near Johnston Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The deadly collision occurred around 7:10 a.m. on March 19 in front of 26761 Stanford Street. Authorities reported that a silver Chrysler 300 sedan hit the pedestrian under unknown circumstances.
The Pedestrian Victim Was Pronounced Dead At The Scene
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the victim succumbed to major injuries and was pronounced dead. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department dispatched the coroner as part of the ongoing investigation.
Both sides of Stanford Street were temporarily blocked due to the crash. The area, a residential neighborhood, has a speed limit of 40 mph on Stanford and 35 mph on Johnston Avenue. While there is a stop sign for traffic entering Stanford from Johnston, there are no marked crosswalks in the vicinity.
Authorities Impounded The Vehicle For Evidence
Following the crash, authorities impounded the vehicle for evidence. The driver was issued a citation and released due to a possible traffic violation, with bail set at $10,000. Under California law, police may cite and release individuals for certain low-level offenses, allowing them to remain out of custody while awaiting a court appearance.
The investigation remains ongoing.
