Driver Suspected of DUI May Be Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter in Hemet Collision
HEMET, CA (September 11, 2018) – A driver who crashed head-on with another car on Sunday in Hemet was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony DUI resulting in injuries. The other driver, who suffered serious injuries, is not expected to survive.
The collision occurred on Warren Road in the 500 block, a bit north of Devonshire Avenue. The time was roughly 8:30 p.m., Lt. Eric Dickson of Hemet Police said.
According to reports, the driver alleged of DUI—identified as Marcos A. Forestal, a 28-year-old resident of Burbank—was traveling in a BMW and going over the speed limit. He swerved into the lanes of opposing traffic.
Forestal’s car collided with a vehicle described as a Chrysler sedan in the northbound traffic lanes. The Chrysler erupted in flames, which were quickly extinguished by patrol officers, who arrived within minutes at the crash site.
Responders from the fire department had to extricate the woman from the Chrysler she had been driving. She was taken by airlift to Moreno Valley’s Riverside University Medical Center. According to Hemet police, the woman—whose name has not been released—is not expected to survive. Police will likely charge Forestal with vehicular manslaughter.
Officers found Forestal walking about the wrecked vehicles at the accident scene. They arrested him as he was determined to be allegedly intoxicated.
