Three Employees Injured After Vehicle Smashes into Restaurant in Hawaiian Gardens
HAWAIIAN GARDENS, CA (January 10, 2020) – On Thursday night, three employees were injured at a restaurant in Hawaiian Gardens after a vehicle smashed into the building. The January 9 incident occurred at the Don Ruben Mexican Grill on East Carson Street in the 12000 block.
The time was roughly 7:40 p.m.
According to Michael Shaw, who is a lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff, a vehicle—described as a GMC truck—smashed into a wall of the building where the kitchen is located. Three employees were injured when hot cooking oil splashed on them.
Responders arrived and took two of the injured employees to a hospital in the area. The third employee did not want to be taken to the hospital, reports say.
The current condition of the three employees is not known. Their identities, including names, ages, gender, and cities of residence, have not been reported.
The owner of the building has also not been identified.
The impact of the crash broke a gas line, and crews worked to shut the gas off.
Investigators are searching for the hit-and-run driver who left the scene of the incident. The driver has not been described.
