Quyen Luu Killed in Crash on 22 Freeway in Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE, CA (January 8, 2019) – Quyen Luu was killed in a crash in Garden Grove on the 22 Freeway, also known as the Garden Grove Freeway, early in the morning on Sunday. The January 6 accident occurred in the westbound lanes of the freeway, close to Magnolia Street.

The time was a bit before 1:00 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Thanh Nguyen, who is a captain with the Garden Grove Fire Department, said that four people had been traveling in a Honda when it crashed into the divider in the center of the freeway. Respondents arrived on scene and transported two of the people to a hospital. One person died, who the Orange County Coroner’s Officer identified as Quyen Luu, 55 years old and a resident of Baldwin Park.

Nguyen said that the other victim suffered injuries that were serious, but not life threatening. The identities of the other occupants who had been traveling in the vehicle at the time of the accident have not yet been reported, including their names, ages, and cities of residence. It is not known if the other two occupants suffered injuries in the crash. It has not yet been reported who was driving at the time of the accident.

It has also not yet been reported what caused the accident, and if any other vehicle was involved. Investigators are examining the details, information, and evidence to find out why the accident happened. No other details are available at this time.
